Mario Gotze

Mario Gotze, the Borussia Dortmund man, has claimed that he would like to play for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. The German was working under the current Liverpool manager at Dortmund before joining Bayern Munich in 2014 but he rejected the chance to play at Anfield a couple of years later when he rejoined Dortmund.

The 26-year-old was quoted in the DAZN documentary ‘Being Mario Gotze’ (h/t The Mirror) and also added rejoining Dortmund was not a decision that was against his former boss.

“I decided to leave Bayern and Jurgen Klopp was interested in getting me to Liverpool. And I was also interested in working with him again.

“He is a world-class coach and that’s why it’s always an option. I decided to join Borussia Dortmund, but it was not a decision against Liverpool or Jurgen Klopp.”

Gotze has often been linked with a move to Anfield and if he is looking for a fresh challenge, Anfield would be a welcome home for him.

However, finding a starting spot now would be difficult for the World Cup winner given that we have an excellent attack and our midfield is already taking shape with the arrivals of Naby Keita and Fabinho.

If we can sign Gotze on the cheap, it would be a great move and we would be able to rotate and rest a number of players as the German can play down the middle or even out wide.

The 26-year-old has had his problems with injuries over the years and scored just twice and provided 3 assists in the Bundesliga for Dortmund last season but a reunion with Klopp could work wonders for his career and also help him set Anfield alight with his performances.
