Liverpool have confirmed that German midfielder Emre Can will leave the club for free once his £70,000-a-week contract comes to an end.
The German international had been rumoured to join Juventus at the end of the season despite us trying our level best to keep him at Anfield.
Can joined the club from Bayer Leverkusen in 2014 and really got into his groove after Jurgen Klopp took over from Brendan Rodgers. The German midfielder was an integral part of the team for the last two seasons but an injury saw him play fewer games in the second half of this season.
Can’s last game for us was in the Champions League final against Real Madrid as he came on as a substitute and his injury concerns also led him to miss out on the German squad for the World Cup in Russia.
While Can was a good player to have in the team, most of us knew that would leave this summer. It still is not clear where the German will end up playing next season but having him in the side would have been good as he is still only 24 and could grow into a better footballer in the years to come.
Fortunately, we have brought in two midfielders to add more strength to the side as Naby Keita and Fabinho should start for us next season.
Can always gave it his 100% on the pitch and no one could doubt his commitment to the club and hopefully, he will get better wherever he decides to move next season.
Good luck Emre Can!
