Ousmane Dembele

According to a report by Daily Express, Liverpool are interested in bringing Barcelona sensation Ousmane Dembele to Anfield this summer.

Despite being a promising star at Borussia Dortmund, Dembele has failed to work his magic at Camp Nou. Over the course of the last season, the player hardly featured as he picked up an injury on his first appearance for the Spanish giants.

He did appear in a couple of matches towards the end of the season but Dembele is yet to have the desired effect at Barcelona. The attacker is just 21 years of age but the fact that Barcelona spent a colossal £134million to sign him last year, speaks volumes of his skills and capabilities.

The Express claims Liverpool are eyeing him as an alternative for Nabil Fekir. Jurgen Klopp was understandably keen on signing the Lyon captain but the move fell through at the penultimate moment.

The report further states that the potential arrival of Antoine Griezmann at Barcelona could push Dembele further below in the pecking order. That situation would be detrimental to the youngster’s future since he needs to be playing regular football to develop and progress further.

However, it is unlikely for him to find frequent first-team opportunities at Liverpool. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have established their dominion and unless either of them succumbs to an injury, it is highly unlikely for Klopp to deploy Dembele in their place.

Nevertheless, Klopp could use Dembele in a No.10 role, similar to how he used Philippe Coutinho. The French youngster is yet to play as a traditional attacking midfielder but that is the only way he can clock regular game time at Anfield.
