Mario Gotze

Liverpool have been named as the favourites to land Borussia Dortmund star Mario Gotze, according to bookmakers BetStars (h/t The Express).

The German star was linked with a move to join the Reds under Jurgen Klopp but preferred to return to Dortmund from Bayern Munich.

The report adds that Arsenal are second favourites to land Gotze at 12/1, while Chelsea and Manchester United are joint third at 14/1. Liverpool, for their part, are 5/2 to bring the World Cup winner to Anfield next season.

Gotze had recently stated that he would be open to a move to Anfield. The German didn’t set the Bundesliga on fire last season as he only scored a couple of goals in the league. Gotze started just 19 games in the league last season and he helped the side finish 4th in the table.

A cheap option to have in the team

Gotze’s stock might not be as high as it was in 2014 when he helped Germany win the World Cup. The attacking midfielder has also had his fair share of health issues, so he might not be an expensive purchase in the transfer window.

Gotze would not be a bad option to have in the team, especially since he can play in a number of positions and Jurgen Klopp knows the player well. Gotze is still 26, so he has a few years of quality football left in him and with Klopp on the side, there is little doubt that this move to Anfield would not work out for all parties.
