Liverpool have been made as the favourites to sign Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel by BetStars (h/t Express).
The 31-year-old did help the Foxes pick up the Premier League title a couple of years ago and he has been one of the best performers between the sticks in the league.
Ian Marmion of BetStars was quoted as saying:
“Liverpool have been priced at evens to be Kasper Schmeichel’s next club, after the Danish keeper put in a stand-out performance against Peru in Denmark’s opening World Cup game.
“Jurgen Klopp may look to source another goalkeeper as a priority with Loris Karius’ future at the club uncertain.
“The Reds are the clear favourites to sign the Leicester City player, with Premier League rivals Arsenal the second favourites at 3/1.”
Marmion also added that Juventus, Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are next in line for the 31-year-old as he could provide cover for David de Gea and Kevin Trapp at Manchester United and PSG respectively.
While we have been linked with a move for a number of keepers in the summer, bringing in Schmeichel would not be the right decision.
The Dane might be a great keeper but he is not young and might not be able to command the likes of Virgil van Dijk well.
The 31-year-old is not a long-term solution to our goalkeeping problems and more often than not, we have spent money on bringing players who are under the age of 26. So, Schmeichel should not be the man to take over from Karius next season.
