Riyad Mahrez of Leicester City should be the alternative for us to consider instead of Nabil Fekir, according to Liverpool Echo’s Joe Rimmer (h/t The Express).

The Algerian had been linked with a move to the Reds in the past but no deal could be completed and he remained with the Foxes last season.

Manchester City then seemed close to finalising a move for the 27-year-old but no deal has been done and Rimmer thinks we should snap him up as Pep Guardiola is hesitating to sign the player.

The 27-year-old did have a decent season with the Foxes as he scored 13 goals and provided 10 assists last season. Mahrez also played in a deeper role and did not stick to his wide position, like he had done in the season when the Foxes won the Premier League title.

Riyad Mahrez

There is one major problem with a move for Mahrez and that is the crazy price that Leicester would demand for their star man.

The 27-year-old is still in great touch and would be a fantastic addition to our side. The Algerian could link up well with our attack if he plays in the midfield and he can also turn up on either wing to provide us with more options to rotate and rest players.

However, bringing Mahrez in does not mean he would straightaway get a starting XI place, as the Algerian would have to fight for his place in the team, which is not always the case at Leicester.

The transfer window still has some time before it closes and hopefully, we bring in more quality players before the start of next season.
