Rant of the day: Why a poor World Cup for Mo Salah could be a blessing in disguise for Liverpool

It was all over in a span of 180 minutes or so. A country expecting greatness from their side in the World Cup will have to wait for another four years.

Egypt had qualified for the greatest show on earth after 28 years but they went out without troubling their opponents.

Defeats at the hands of Uruguay and Russia ended the Egyptian dream of achieving something in the World Cup but at least Mohamed Salah got a goal via a penalty.

All eyes were on Salah this time and suffice to say, things weren’t easy for him.

Things were always going to be difficult for the 44-goal star from Anfield after Sergio Ramos damaged his shoulder in the Champions League final.

Salah missed the first game against Uruguay but he did show glimpses of his ability in the match against the host nation Russia.

The 25-year-old won the penalty and scored, but even a win against Saudi Arabia in the final game will not be enough to take them to the next round.

This would mean great news for Liverpool fans as Salah will get close to a month or so to recuperate along with a lot of time to relax.

He broke a ton of records, reached a new level almost every month and was possibly the best player in Premier League last season.

The Egyptian must come back stronger for the upcoming season and he would have a point to prove to Ramos as well.

There are a number of trophies that we need to be won and with more players coming into our side, there is no doubt that we will get better. Although an early exit from the World Cup might not be the best thing for Salah, it might be a good thing for us.

Momentum is important for the start of the season

Looking back at the time when we signed Salah, the 25-year-old had his best goalscoring season for Roma with 19 in all competitions and he genuinely was one of the best players in the Serie A.

Form is just as important for a player as his ability and without the former, Salah could be looking at a slow start to the upcoming campaign.

After his spectacular campaign, the Egyptian might come under the scanner as soon as he picks up a slight niggle or goes missing from a game or two – and that would not be great news for us either.

This is where Jurgen Klopp would have a huge role to play and there is no doubt the German will get things right for us next season. As it is, our side will certainly get stronger with the likes of Fabinho and Naby Keita coming in.

An angry Salah would be the ideal for us next season and anything less than that might lead to a tepid season from the Egyptian – which would subsequently have an effect on the rest of the side as well. Hence, Salah’s misfortune at the World Cup could be a blessing in disguise for Liverpool.
