Marco Asensio has opened up about the reported interest from Liverpool as Spain prepare for their clash against Russia in the round of 16 in the World Cup.

The Spaniard was asked about Liverpool and was quoted by the Mirror as saying:

“Liverpool? When the World Cup is over, we’ll talk about that sort of thing, now I’m focused on selection for Spain.”

The 22-year-old also spoke about new Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui, who was sacked by Spain before the start of the World Cup.

“I’m glad Julen has signed up for Real Madrid, after the World Cup we’ll talk things over with him”

It does seem like Asensio has some negotiations to do with the new manager, otherwise, he would have downright played down the speculation surrounding his future.

Reports claim that a price of £158million has been put on the attacking midfielder while the star also has a release clause of £616m in his current contract.

Asensio would be an incredible buy for us and the Spaniard could be the marquee signing this summer. It will be interesting to see just how this progresses over the coming weeks.

Asensio didn’t get a lot of starts for Real last season and if we can guarantee him more minutes on the pitch, there just might be a chance of us completing one of the biggest deals of the summer.
