Liverpool might be looking for a first-team keeper but they are amongst a number of clubs interested in AS Roma’s Matteo Cardinali according to reports from Italy.

Tutto Mercato Web (h/t The Express) claims that Liverpool officials had watched the 17-year-old Italian keeper when his side wrapped up the U17 title.

It wasn’t just Liverpool who were keeping a close eye on the Italian, as Arsenal and RB Salzburg are also interested in the Roma youngster.

There is no questioning that Cardinali is a keeper for the future and we have done a lot of work in signing players to make our youth teams one of the best in the world.

What could work in our favour is that we have given opportunities to youngsters in Jurgen Klopp’s reign and that might attract Cardinali if he seeks to grow more and start playing top-flight games quicker.

The youngster would not be an expensive signing either but most of us would be keeping an eye out for transfer news about a top keeper coming to Anfield.

We have been linked with a move for Alisson and a number of other top keepers and it will be important for us to sign someone of quality ahead of the new season if we are to pick up some sort of silverware.
