30-year-old Liverpool star to discuss about Anfield future after World Cup – report

Simon Mignolet will speak about his future once he returns to Liverpool after the World Cup. The 30-year-old Belgian has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield and was quoted by the Guardian as saying:

“I am going to look at my situation when I come back from the World Cup,”

The former Sunderland man also added that he hasn’t spoken to anyone at Liverpool apart from our goalkeeping coach John Achterberg, who messages the player to find out if he is fit or not before every game.

Mignolet also added that he hadn’t played a lot for us last season and “will look at everything” while speaking to manager Jurgen Klopp.

The Belgian started last season as our No.1 but was replaced by Loris Karius. The German keeper did pretty well initially but everyone remembers his howler in the Champions League final.

Liverpool have been in the market for a new goalkeeper with Jan Oblak

and Alisson being two of our targets but both seem to be expensive and out of our reach, at the moment.

Mignolet, being 30, might not want to spend any more time on the bench and could prefer being the first choice.

It does seem likely that we will sell the player next season as we also have Danny Ward on our books. The Welsh keeper could be a decent back-up in the upcoming campaign.

The writing seemed to be on the wall for Mignolet last season when he was dropped by Klopp and even though the keeper is at the World Cup, he has not played a single minute for Belgium too.
