Croatia’s World Cup campaign certainly has gone pretty well as they prepare for a quarter-final clash against Russia. One of the stars has been Liverpool man Dejan Lovren but his partner could end up on Merseyside according to Turkish Football (h/t Liverpool Echo).

Domagoj Vida, who now plays for Besiktas, is a target for Liverpool. The 29-year-old central defender is also being looked at by our rivals Everton and the report claims that both clubs have bid for the defender but are not meeting the asking price.

Turgay Demir, a Turkish journalist, was quoted as saying:

“Everton and Liverpool have made an offer for Vida, €15m has been proposed but Besiktas will not consider a bid below €20m.”

While Vida has done pretty well at the World Cup alongside Lovren, he might not be a starter for us next season. The 29-year-old only joined Besiktas in January on a free transfer, according to the Echo, however, the Croatian could be a decent squad player for us to have next season.

We do require some experience at the back and with Lovren in the side, Vida might feel more at ease at Liverpool. Also, we did sign Ragnar Klavan a few years back to provide some experience to our defence and that is something Vida might be able to do as well.

While he is not the long-term solution, Vida could be one of those cheap signings that can come good when the team requires a wise head to perform during crunch situations.
