Jurgen Klopp targets another forward to add depth with this €60m German star

According to Daily Mirror, Liverpool are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen attacker Julian Brandt this summer.

Brandt, 22, was controversially preferred to Manchester City star Leroy Sane by Joachim Loew in his final 23-man Germany squad for World Cup 2018. However, the winger was used in a bit-part role by Loew as the Germans were knocked out of the World Cup in the Group Stages following their collapse against South Korea.

The Mirror claim that the Reds are prepared to acquire the services of the €60million German international, with Jurgen Klopp wanting another forward to bolster the squad as a back-up for the brilliant trio of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

Last season, Brandt featured in 34 league games for Leverkusen, scoring 9 goals and registering 5 assists. Towards the business end of last season, the versatile attacker also signed a new contract with Leverkusen.

We need a back up for Salah, who went on to score 44 goals in his debut campaign at Anfield, establishing himself as one of the best players in the world. An injury to either Salah or Mane would leave our club short of options in the attack and with our participation in Champions League next term, Klopp must prioritise bringing in a versatile forward.

Brandt certainly fits that mould after playing in various positions in Leverkusen colours last term under Heiko Herrlich. Young and immensely talented, Brandt possesses the ability to cut open tightest of defences with his creativity and guile, thriving in spaces. Due to his versatility, Brandt would be a valuable addition to our squad.

So without much thinking, Klopp must splash the cash on Brandt, who could give us a very different approach in the attack next term.
