According to a report from Turkish outlet A Spor, Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum wants an Anfield exit this summer. The report adds that the Dutchman has been given the green light to join Fenerbahce.

Wijnaldum, 27, played 33 matches last season for the Reds, scoring a goal and supplying two assists. He returned to Liverpool training on Sunday, starting his pre-season slightly late due to his international commitments in June.

Our club has certainly done some good business in the summer transfer window so far, adding the likes of Fabinho and Naby Keita. A Spor claims Wijnaldum is considering opening a ‘new page’ in his career which indicates that the midfielder is looking out for pastures anew following the arrivals of Keita and Fabinho.

To be fair, Wijnaldum should move to Fenerbahce where he would be reunited with his former PSV manager. Phillip Cocu. The Dutch midfielder had a good debut season at Anfield, scoring six goals in 42 appearances but he struggled to make an impact this past season despite making 49 appearances in all competitions.

Wijnaldum is undoubtedly a good player and a great box-to-box midfielder with high levels of energy and goalscoring abilities. However, it will be difficult to see him get regular playing opportunities under Jurgen Klopp next season.

With the summer arrivals of Fabinho and Keita, the 27-year-old must make a move to Fenerbahce. The midfielder’s transfer to Turkey could be the ideal solution for all parties involved.
