Liverpool finally confirmed the signing of Swiss superstar Xherdan Shaqiri as the 26-year-old completed his medical and took part in the regular interview and much more. The attacker’s jersey number will be ’23’.

The Reds had been linked with a move for Shaqiri since the World Cup and the player cut short his holiday to take part in the formalities with Liverpool yesterday.

The 26-year-old becomes our third signing of the summer and will surely add a lot of aggression and ability to our attack.

The former Stoke City player was certainly ecstatic about joining Jurgen Klopp and the rest of the team and was quoted by the Liverpool website as saying:

“That was a big point for me to come here, because of the coach. I love his football, how he plays and how he manages a team. I was always an admirer of his so I’m happy to reunite with him.”

Shaq also added that he was happy to come to here and even alluded to the fact that he could have been a Red a few years ago.

“A few years ago I wanted to come too but it didn’t happen. I’m really happy that now I’m finally here.”

We have been close to winning trophies under Jurgen Klopp and that could be another reason for Shaqiri to join us. It does seem like a dream for us to finally get Shaqiri and even though there are concerns about his consistency and lack of defensive contribution, Klopp knows what he is doing and most of his transfers have worked for us.

Shaqiri might not start every game for us next season but finally, we have a quality winger that can do a job should Sadio Mane or Mohamed Salah not play a game or two.
