Shaka Hislop believes that Liverpool’s season will be judged on how much they push Manchester City while winning a trophy would be a bonus.

The pundit was speaking on ESPN FC (h/t Express) and was quoted as saying:

“The judgement on Liverpool will be how far they can push Manchester City.”

The former keeper also claimed that Manchester City were the better side despite Jurgen Klopp spending a lot of money.

“I don’t think anybody’s squad is stronger, including Liverpool’s, than Manchester City’s. That’s just the reality of the situation.

“Now, the thing for me is, yes Jurgen Klopp has spent a lot of money and I think he’s had quite a honeymoon period without bringing home silverware.”

Liverpool did reach the Champions League final under Klopp last season but lost to Real Madrid. It was the same situation in the Europa League final a few years ago, where we lost to Sevilla.

Hislop does not believe that we could make a similar run in the Champions League this season. The former keeper does, however, want us to make it out of the group stage.

The pundit also added that winning a cup would be the “icing on the cake”.

“Whether they can win a cup, the FA Cup or League Cup or whatever it may be, I think it’s icing on the cake.”

Klopp has certainly created a quality side with four new signings coming in. The performances in pre-season have been great too and we were the only side to defeat City thrice last season.

The signs look good for the Reds to break the trophy duck under Klopp and hopefully, we will celebrate some sort of success this season.
