Former Liverpool defender says Klopp shouldn’t sign world-class star from Bundesliga

Former Liverpool central defender Steve Nicol does not want the club to make a move for Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng.

The former Red was speaking to ESPN FC (h/t Mirror) where he was asked if Jurgen Klopp should consider buying the 29-year-old German international.

“I am not a huge fan. The last 12 months, he has had injury problems and form problems. So right now, no.”

Boateng has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga club as Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was quoted by the Metro as saying the right offer could clinch the deal for the German.

“If a club comes to us and he says that he wants to join that club, then we will negotiate.”

The report from the Metro also claimed that Manchester United were interested in the former Manchester City defender.

The Croatian defender did do extremely well in the World Cup alongside Dejan Lovren. The pair helped Croatia reach the World Cup final, however, they did lose the title to France.

Liverpool have four first-team defenders already in Lovren, Ragnar Klavan, Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk, while Klopp had suggested (h/t Metro) that Joe Gomez provides something different to the side when he plays in central defence.
