Liverpool were made to work hard against Leicester City, despite coming out victorious. The Reds raced to a 2-0 lead, thanks to goals from Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino in the first half.

Jurgen Klopp’s men looked comfortable till Alisson tried a cut-back in his own box and lost the ball to Kelechi Iheanacho.

Rachid Ghezzal pounced on the pass from Iheanacho and made it 2-1 for the Foxes. Liverpool did hold on to the lead despite the pressure but this should have been an easy three points for us, rather than a tense win.

There were a couple of stars even in this slender win and here are the player ratings for the Reds.

Alisson – 5/10

The Brazilian was finally caught out trying another flick in the penalty box. Alisson doesn’t always need to be fancy and hopefully, he will learn from this. He did make a couple of routine saves but we do not need another keeper making mistakes at the back.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10

Trent did pretty well in the first half but we were made to defend a lot in the second. Our passing wasn’t great but the Englishman didn’t let Leicester get too many crosses in from his side.

Virgil van Dijk – 8/10

The Dutch defender was brilliant today as he ensured Liverpool didn’t concede another goal. Van Dijk cleared a number of important headers away from the penalty box.

Joe Gomez – 9/10

Gomez was excellent at the back as he covered gaps from Andy Robertson and Alexander-Arnold really well. Another fantastic showing from the youngster at King Power Stadium.

Andy Robertson – 7.5/10

The Scot created the first goal as he barged into the Leicester box and whipped in a low cross for Mane to convert. The left-back was a bundle of energy and did pretty well with the ball at his feet.

James Milner – 7.5/10

Another solid performance from Milner as he kept things ticking in the midfield. The Englishman was booked for a late challenge towards the end of the game.

Georginio Wijnaldum – 7/10

Wijnaldum had a quiet game but he didn’t make too many mistakes in the middle of the pitch.

Jordan Henderson – 7/10

The Englishman was given his first start of the season and he was great in the first half. But his influence waned in the second, before being replaced by Naby Keita.

Mohamed Salah – 6.5/10

This was one of Salah’s poorest outings for the Reds. He missed an easy chance at the start and his decision-making and passing were all over the place.

Roberto Firmino – 7/10

Firmino did score late in the first half but he should have broken the deadlock in the early minutes of the game. The Brazilian lost his mojo in the second half as he couldn’t get his passes to his teammates.

Sadio Mane – 8/10

Mane seems to have taken the responsibility of scoring goals over from Salah. The Senegal international didn’t have clear-cut chances but was a problem for the Leicester defence.

Substitutes

Xherdan Shaqiri – 6/10

The Swiss star certainly did his bit in keeping the ball in Leicester’s half during the final minutes of the game.

Naby Keita – N/A

Keita didn’t do much after coming on in the second half.

Joel Matip – N/A

The defender was brought on to hold onto the lead and he won a couple of headers.
