Liverpool among a number of clubs interested in 15-year-old English sensation

Liverpool are keeping tabs on Rochdale youngster Luke Matheson after his incredible debut, reports the Daily Mail.

The 15-year-old was brought on as a 13th-minute substitute in their Checkatrade Trophy win over rivals Bury. The report adds that the youngster returned to begin Year 11 at Trinity High School on Tuesday morning and then made his debut for Rochdale later that day.

The report adds that Matheson became the youngest debutant for his team and even put in a man-of-the-match performance.

The manager of the side, Keith Hill, added (h/t Daily Star) that the youngster was training with the senior side for a while and juggling school too.

“He’s been training with the first team whilst he’s not been at school during the summer and I’m really pleased for him that he got his chance. They’re special nights when that happens.”

Matheson’s achievement is no laughing matter, however, if he joins Liverpool, the youngster would be sent to one of our youth squads.

The right-back has a long way to go before we see him in the Premier League but his development will certainly speed up, should he join a top-level team.

Liverpool have seen the likes of Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold come through the ranks and Matheson could be another player that follows that path, should he end up at Anfield.
