Simon Mignolet

Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet is the latest player to pick up an injury during the international break. Adam Lallana withdrew from the England squad due to a groin injury and the Reds confirmed that the Belgian will not be playing for the national side during the break.

The release (h/t Daily Star) added that Mignolet should be fit for the clash against Tottenham Hotspur after the international break:

“Simon Mignolet has withdrawn from the Belgium squad due to injury.

“The Liverpool goalkeeper had been called up by Roberto Martinez for the friendly with Scotland and subsequent UEFA Nations League tie against Iceland.

“But the injury has ruled Mignolet out of the fixtures with his country.

“The 30-year-old is expected to be available when the Reds return to action at Tottenham Hotspur next weekend, however.”

Any further issues could lead to a problem for Jurgen Klopp as Mignolet is the backup for Alisson.

The 30-year-old Belgian was not sold in the summer but the Reds allowed Danny Ward to join Leicester City.

Loris Karius also moved to Besiktas on loan and should Alisson pick up an injury, we would be in major trouble.

The Brazilian has done a great job since taking up the No.1 keeper’s role at Anfield with three clean sheets to his name. His last game, however, didn’t pan out as expected with an error leading to a Leicester City goal.

Mignolet should start a few cup games this season but if Alisson keeps performing to his best, the Belgian could be on the bench for a considerable amount of time.
