Roberto Firmino

Liverpool star Sadio Mane has claimed that Roberto Firmino goes about the pitch like an “animal”, as the Senegal star spoke about his exploits in front of the goal.

Mane leads the Premier League scoring charts with four goals, alongside Aleksandar Mitrovic, but the former Saint believes his teammates’ contributions have played a major role in strengthening Liverpool.

Speaking to Bleacher Report, the Senegal international said:

“Lots of people like to talk about me and Salah. It’s nice to hear those things, but the strength of this Liverpool team is the collective.

“You also can’t forget that there’s a guy up front called Firmino who works like an animal for us and makes things easier. And the guys behind us do some extraordinary work. We try to benefit from that and help the team go forward.”

Firmino hasn’t had a great start when it comes to scoring goals. In fact, he only has one to his name so far. However, the Brazilian does put in a quality shift on the pitch.

The Brazilian scored 15 times for us in the league last season but his game isn’t only about the goals and assists.

His runs create spaces for our forwards and he is a thorn for any defence to deal with.

Mane is right in praising Firmino as he often is left out when talking about quality strikers in the Premier League. His game is different when compared to the likes of Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero but the Brazilian is as important to our team as any player at Anfield.

Rant of the day: Jurgen Klopp should stick to the 4-2-3-1, thanks to these two players

Published

on

Xherdan Shaqiri Liverpool

Xherdan Shaqiri seems to be making waves at Liverpool after his latest showing against Fulham. The Reds were far from their best and needed some quick-thinking to open the scoring before Shaqiri made it 2-0 with a great volley.

The Swiss attacker possibly was the best player on the pitch. The former Stoke man has fitted well into the Liverpool team with Jurgen Klopp deploying a 4-2-3-1 several times this season.

This is one conundrum that Klopp might have to look into. Liverpool were playing a fluid and attacking 4-3-3 last season, however, the German has opted for a 4-2-3-1 this season.

There has been a dual effect with this change. Liverpool aren’t scoring goals for fun or tearing teams down, but we aren’t conceding many too.

Fabinho Liverpool

In fact, we have only conceded five goals from 12 Premier League games, which is an incredible record considering how leaky our defence was when Klopp arrived.

It isn’t just Shaqiri who has done well in this new formation. Fabinho started his Liverpool career slowly but now seems to be doing well.

The Brazilian still lacks a bit of speed but hopefully, he will get better as the season progresses.

Big decisions lying ahead for Liverpool

Shoehorning Shaqiri and Fabinho might have taken some doing, but the pair certainly make us a tougher team to break down and better in attack this season.

Our front trio from the previous campaign as just not looking as fluid as before. Mohamed Salah is scoring the goals because he is leading the attack now, and his relationship with Shaqiri has helped us to a couple of goals this season.

Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane aren’t going great guns and Shaqiri has actually looked the most threatening of our attackers, once we take Salah out of the equation.

Fabinho has done a decent job as the midfield destroyer but he is yet to adjust his game to Premier League conditions.

The Brazilian was great in our 4-0 win over Red Star but hasn’t been able to replicate that kind of form in the Premier League games.

However, Klopp shouldn’t think of going back to a 4-3-3 yet since we are doing pretty well in the league this season.

The Reds are tougher to break down, which is a great sign going into the rest of the season, and Fabinho will only get better with more time under his belt.

The pair weren’t the biggest names when we signed them or even the most expensive, but they have made us a rounded team.

It is difficult not seeing the attacking football from last season every game. However, if we remain challengers for the Premier League crown, it will be another step in the right direction.

Ousmane Dembele

Ousmane Dembele

James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo has claimed that the Reds are not interested in launching a bid for Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele in January.

Liverpool have been linked with a massive £85million (h/t Liverpool Echo) deal for the French forward, however, the report claims that Jurgen Klopp is not willing to buy players in January as he believes the team can challenge on all fronts.

The French attacker joined the Catalan giants from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of £135million (h/t Liverpool Echo), but injuries have hurt his progress at Barcelona.

Pearce did believe that Klopp could spend in the winter window only if we are dealt with a number of injuries.

Liverpool are second in the Premier League and have a decent chance of making it out of their Champions League group too.

However, some fans were not happy with the report from Pearce and wanted the club to sign an attacking midfielder in the winter window.

Christian Pulisic

Christian Pulisic hasn’t ruled out playing in the Premier League someday. The American is one of the best youngsters in the Bundesliga and was brought to Borussia Dortmund by Jurgen Klopp.

The Express reports that Liverpool have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old.

Pulisic was quoted by the Express as saying:

“England, the Premier League, is a league where lots of kids dream of playing.

“So there is no reason why maybe one day I won’t play here.”

The Express adds that Klopp bid £11million for the American in 2016 but Dortmund rejected that offer. Pulisic has helped the club to the top of the Bundesliga this season and has two goals and two assists.

The report adds that Manchester United are also interested in the 20-year-old, and could rival any bid made by the Anfield giants.

The American added that he is enjoying his season with the Germans and knows that tabloid tales are part of the game.

Pulisic would be a wonderful addition to the team, and the youngster can play in a number of positions in the attacking third.

The 20-year-old would not come on the cheap, however, Klopp can make the American better at Anfield. It will be interesting to see what happens in the winter window, and if we get Pulisic, it would be the blockbuster deal of the January window,
