Calm down about Salah and Mane, they have to be selfish and were last season too: Food for thought

Liverpool were exceptional in the 2-1 win over Tottenham but we should have battered them by five or six goals at least.

One of the major talking points from the game, however, was the lack of understanding between Liverpool’s forwards as fans blamed Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane for not passing the ball enough.

Liverpool were almost made to pay with Mane nearly conceding a penalty and throwing away our hard work.

I have seen fans go at each other, blaming the two, but truth be told, we need them to be selfish in front of the goal.

The best strikers take the shots

Continuously passing the ball around for another to finish will make us the old Arsenal. Strikers have to be lethal and that was what our players were last season.

Salah and Mane were selfish last season as well, the only difference was that things were going right for the pair.

The Egyptian broke the Premier League’s scoring record and some of his goals were incredible.

The ones against Everton and Tottenham at home stands out. But if the former Roma man kept the ball a little too long and didn’t find the target, a number of us would have cribbed about the chance going begging.

Similarly, Mane also had a few instances where he either kept the ball a little too long or had a pop at the goal. The game against Manchester City in the Champions League is a prime example of the Senegal man keeping the ball to himself and having a blast at the target.

Jurgen Klopp looked a little bemused as to why some of the players didn’t pick the right decision at Wembley but we did come out with all three points.

Had one or two chances gone in, no one would have complained and we would have instead been talking about something else.

Salah, Firmino and Mane are an incredible trio and even if they are not firing on all cylinders, it must be noted the trio has scored eight times in just five games this season.

They might not have the same scoring prowess as last season but we are perfect in five games and if we can get the goals to flow in, there won’t be any complaints.

The manager has worked wonders for the side since taking over in 2015 and his biggest challenge was making our defence tight.

We have only conceded two goals from five games this season, which is a far cry from the leaky back line we had. Thus, I am sure Klopp will have a stern word with Mane and Salah before our next game against Paris Saint-Germain.

In the Champions League last season, the trio looked their menacing best and what better way to showcase team spirit than by battering the French side and spreading the ball around for everyone to score.
