Liverpool’s match against Paris Saint-Germain was the pick of the clashes from the first round of Champions League fixtures and what a tie it was.
The Reds raced into a 2-0 lead, thanks to goals from Daniel Sturridge and James Milner. PSG weren’t giving up without a fight as Thomas Meunier pulled one back before half-time.
Kylian Mbappe scored in the 83rd minute but Roberto Firmino had the last laugh with the winner in the 91st minute.
The clash featured some of the best players in the world but there was one moment of brilliance from Sadio Mane.
The Senegal international couldn’t score in the game but he did destroy Neymar on the pitch. The incident happened in the first-half as Mane was attacking down the right and the Brazilian was trying to defend.
A move here, a drop of the shoulder there and poof, the Liverpool
man burst into the box. Neymar was taken to the cleaners and it set the tone for the Brazilian to barely figure in the game.Mane was excellent in the first half as we harried and bullied PSG into submission. The Senegal man didn’t score a goal but he surely made life tough for the French side.
We have started our Champions League campaign in excellent fashion and our next European tie is against Napoli in Italy.
Should Mane and the rest of the team go in with the same sort of mentality, a win against Napoli is a given. For now, we should plan for all three points against Southampton on Saturday.
