Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Southampton was marred by an injury to Virgil van Dijk. The Dutch defender had to be replaced in the second half with Joe Gomez coming on.
Van Dijk looked exceptional at the back once again as he had a number of interceptions and clearances. The former Southampton man looked comfortable with Joel Matip but Gomez had to take over from the Dutchman.
Liverpool’s next clash is against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup and we shouldn’t risk playing the defender.
The 27-year-old had a bruised rib, as per a release, from the club and Jurgen Klopp claimed the defender got hit there again.
“He already had a bruise in the ribs before the PSG game, which is very uncomfortable and today he got another hit there.
“It should be absolutely OK, hopefully. I didn’t hear anything different.”
This would come as great news for the Liverpool fans and their relief was plastered all over Twitter.
I’ll donate my rib if I have to
