The Dutch defender joined the Reds in January and took us to the Champions League final. Also, his exploits at the back have made us one of the best defences in the league.
We are yet to concede a goal at Anfield this season and the former Liverpool striker believes Van Dijk is a “man-mountain.”
Speaking to Quest TV (h/t Liverpool Echo), Heskey added:
“They haven’t had the sturdiness in the past and they’ve really struggled with that, they haven’t really had that commanding figure since Jamie Carragher left.
“But in Virgil Van Dijk they now have that, they seem to be getting there and he’s such a man-mountain he makes such a big difference in that back four.”
The Dutch defender has formed a great partnership with Joe Gomez this season and the pair hasn’t been troubled a lot in our opening seven fixtures.
The former Southampton man might have been an expensive signing back in January but the player has proven to be a quality addition to the side.
Liverpool look strong at the back with Van Dijk marshalling the defence. After all, that used to be one of our problem areas.
The Dutch captain has been great for us so far and hopefully, he can lead us to some trophies in the coming years.
