Virgil van Dijk has been a rock in our defence since he joined from Southampton in January. The Dutch defender has made us a tougher team to crack and the former Saint has formed a great partnership with Joe Gomez.
The 27-year-old seems to say the right things on and off the pitch and recently spoke about Jurgen Klopp managing a side that is filled with talent.
The Dutchman was quoted by the Telegraph as saying that players cannot expect to start every game.
“You have to (understand), otherwise you better leave.
“We all want one thing, we all want to be successful, everyone, and we need everyone’s help.
“It’s a long season with a lot of games, we need everyone and everyone knows that as well, and that’s a big strength for us. Everyone is doing their bit because the season is long.”
The central defender is spot-on about everyone having to chip in and doing well. Liverpool have a strong first XI but we signed quality players in the summer. However, the members must earn their right to start games.
These comments from the Dutchman went down well with a number of Liverpool supporters. The centre-back is already the captain of his country and some Liverpool fans wanted him to take over Jordan Henderson at the club too.

I can see Van Dijk being captain of Liverpool within the next couple of years. No offence to Henderson he’s a great captain but I just feel Van Dijk is more suited for the role

Henderson must be dropped now it’s not fair on him the players klopp or the fans! Simply not good enough and wouldn’t start on any other top 7 team! pic.twitter.com/hdgRQ13EDn

Virgil Van Dijk deserves to be our captain as he is a true leader on the pitch along with his commanding style of play which most of our current players lack. pic.twitter.com/xke9OfGzuv
