Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes the Reds are missing a “Coutinho” type of player. Liverpool are unbeaten in the Premier League this season, but their front three have not been lethal in front of goal.
Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have failed to find the back of the net in the last four games, and Carragher believes another addition to the midfield should be a priority for Jurgen Klopp in the winter window.
Speaking to This is Anfield (h/t Express), the Sky Sports pundit said:
“We need a bit more quality in midfield, I think. That’s all. Maybe he’ll revisit that in January.
“I just look at that midfield and I think we’re missing that Coutinho type of player. Obviously, we went in for Fekir, so we’re obviously looking for someone like that.
“We’re trying to compete with City, and I look and they’ve got [Kevin] De Bruyne and [David] Silva in there. I don’t think we’ve got that sort of player.”
Carragher conceded we have “different” kind of players at the club but need someone to unlock defences, especially at Anfield.
The Sky pundit further claimed that this could be the best side he had seen in 30 years.
Liverpool were interested in Nabil Fekir, but a deal for the Frenchman fell through due to his injury history, according to the Express.
The Reds do seem to be missing a bit of firepower from their midfield, and it will be interesting to see if we make a move in the January window for an attacking midfielder.
