James Pearce provides update on contract situation for 26-year-old Liverpool star

James Pearce of the Liverpool Echo provided an update on Sadio Mane’s contract situation at Anfield. The Senegal star scored a brace in our 4-1 win over Cardiff and racked up 50 Premier League goals since his time in England.

The 26-year-old has formed a great partnership with Mohamed Salah

and Roberto Firmino, and Pearce claimed that talks have already begun over a new deal.

“Sadio Mane is under contract until 2021. Liverpool made it clear towards the end of last season that they would be willing to reward his progress with a new long-term deal and preliminary talks were opened.”

The journalist added that the Reds aren’t concerned about not finalising a deal yet, and the player and his agent enjoy a fine relationship with the club.

Pearce added that Salah and Firmino have already extended their stays and the Senegalese is the next “priority” for Liverpool

. The journalist did provide a word of warning should the deal not be signed till next summer, however, he didn’t see that to be a big problem at the moment.

A similar situation arising with Mane seems unlikely, and it could only be a matter of time before he increases his tenure at Anfield.
