Liverpool and Croatia defender Dejan Lovren has claimed he never said he was the best defender in the world and added he makes fewer mistakes than Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos.
The centre-back was speaking to Copa90 and believed he gets a lot of hate:
“I said ‘one of’ the best defenders in the world and I think I didn’t say anything wrong.
“Of course my haters will always say that (I don’t deserve to be seen as one of the best).
“What can I say? Is anyone perfect here?
“People always catch you on mistakes and they don’t look at the good things you do. Sometimes I think I don’t deserve the hate, I would say.”
The defender then brought up the example of Ramos and how he actually makes more mistakes than the Croatian.
“But he is at Real Madrid. When you do a mistake but you win 5-1, 5-2 then nobody sees the mistake.”
Lovren highlighted his achievement from last season where he reached the Champions League final and the World Cup final, unfortunately, he lost both times.
“I didn’t win, but still I think I deserve the credit”, added the Croatian.
Lovren’s place in the Liverpool starting XI has been in doubt thanks to the rise of Joe Gomez. The Englishman has formed a great partnership with Virgil van Dijk this season.
