Jurgen Klopp explains his decision to not sign former Borussia Dortmund star

Liverpool play Arsenal in a mouth-watering clash on Saturday and Jurgen Klopp will face two ex-Borussia Dortmund players that he managed.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are now playing at Arsenal, and the German explained his decision of not working with known players.

Klopp was quoted by the Daily Star as speaking about Mkhitaryan:

“I had that player.

“If you have had players, you know more about them. You want to learn about other players. That’s how it is.”

The German added that he knew the Armenian was moving to Manchester United and wasn’t willing to mess around with the deal. Klopp then explained that he was looking for new players, and not ones he already managed.

“We didn’t look for players we had already worked with. If you do that, you know their good, their bad and you wonder whether you will do it again.

“It’s not boring but you know everything about each other so how can you develop? Where is the next step? Where is the next push for development?”

The Arsenal pair are quality players and could have been amazing signings for us but we have a brilliant team at the moment.

It is difficult seeing either Aubameyang or Mkhitaryan starting in place of any of our front three, and Klopp seems to have made the right decisions about the personnel coming into Anfield during his tenure.
