James Milner scores for Liverpool

Liverpool had a horrible night in Serbia as we were shocked 2-0 by Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League.

We started the game as favourites, and three points would have helped us immensely in our quest to make it to the next round.

However, the home side were hungrier for the points throughout the 90, and we didn’t deserve anything from the clash.

Red Star were in our faces from the first minute, and an interesting stat cropped up regarding the inadequacy of our midfield.

The Liverpool Echo reports that our midfield trio of James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana didn’t win a single tackle during their time on the pitch.

Lallana was eventually replaced by Divock Origi with 11 minutes to go, however, this stat was an eye opener given that our midfield has been one of our strong points this season.

It comes as a bigger surprise given that James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum have been incredible this season.

This just proves that none of the players were up for the battle on Tuesday. The loss hasn’t ended our hopes of making it into the next round.

Should we beat PSG in Paris, a place in the knockout stage would be confirmed. However, anything less than a win, and we would need to beat Napoli by at least two goals to make it into the last 16.
