Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has responded to criticism from Dejan Lovren. The Liverpool centre-back spoke earlier in the season and claimed the Spaniard’s mistakes are overlooked because he plays for Madrid.
Lovren was quoted by the Mirror as saying:
“If you look, Ramos has many more mistakes than me. But he plays for Real Madrid , when you do a mistake you win 5-1 or 5-2, nobody cares.”
The Liverpool star is set to face Sergio Ramos as Croatia meet Spain during the international break, and the Madrid defender was quoted (h/t Mirror) saying:
“I’ve said it many times. I don’t know if these things are said out of frustration or for other reasons.
“I’m not going to answer Lovren or whoever wants to win three front pages or start the news bulletin.
“Everyone wins things for himself on the pitch.”
Both players have found it difficult this season with Ramos’ club struggling in the league while Lovren has seen his place in the Liverpool side taken up by Joe Gomez.
The Croatian was a starter for us last season but returned from the World Cup with an injury. Gomez and Virgil van Dijk have been excellent as a pair, and it doesn’t make sense to replace either one of them.
It will be a fascinating game between the two European sides and we can’t rule out Lovren getting one over his Spanish counterpart.
