Virgil van Dijk has had his say on the war of words between Dejan Lovren and Sergio Ramos. Lovren recently taunted Ramos after Croatia defeated Spain 3-2 in the UEFA Nations League, and the Dutch defender spoke about who his favourite is.
Ramos has become a bit of a divisive figure after Real Madrid’s 3-1 Champions League win over Liverpool and was partly responsible for Mohamed Salah leaving the game after 30 minutes.
Van Dijk told De Telegraaf (h/t Mirror) that he didn’t believe Ramos was the best defender out there.
“He is a great player and I respect what he has achieved but he is not the best, he is not my type of central defender.
“Ramos’ teammate at Real Madrid, Raphael Varane is my favourite. He is an excellent defender and has already won a lot.”
The Dutch defender actually is one of the best in the world and could possibly be the best in the Premier League.
It is a good thing that he didn’t get into this battle of words and would want to concentrate on Liverpool’s campaign ahead.
We have one of the best defences in the league having conceded five goals from 12 games, and hopefully, Van Dijk can keep our back four this time for the rest of the campaign.
