“I might have had a career as Eto’o or Drogba” – Former Norwich striker laments missed opportunity to play for Liverpool

Dieudonne Mbokani

Liverpool fans might remember Dieudonne Mbokani from that epic 5-4 win over Norwich a few years ago. Adam Lallana got the stoppage-time winner for the Reds as Jurgen Klopp saw his glasses get damaged in the celebrations.

Norwich didn’t do all that well that season and Mbokani left the club to play for Hull City and now stars for Royal Antwerp.

The Congo striker claimed that he could have played for Liverpool but made the switch to Ligue 1 club Monaco.

Liverpool were managed by Roy Hodgson then, and Mbokani told Het Nieuwsblad (h/t Daily Star

):

“When I played at Standard, I had the choice between Monaco and Liverpool.

“But that turned out badly.

“If I had gone to Liverpool I might have had a career as [Samuel] Eto’o or [Didier] Drogba.

“Because I felt that with my qualities I must not be inferior to those two.”

Mbokani’s move to France didn’t go well and he joined Anderlecht after one season in the Principality. The 32-year-old has had stints in numerous countries but hasn’t found his shooting boots all that much.

It would have been interesting to have someone like Mbokani in the side back then but things didn’t work great for Hodgson too.

Some of our buys under the Englishman but things seem to be falling into place under Jurgen Klopp.
