Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp claimed that he was about to sub Jordan Henderson off before the captain got sent off in our 3-0 win over Watford.
The red card was the only blemish in our win over the Hornets, and Henderson will now be suspended for the Merseyside derby next weekend.
The Englishman picked up bookings for a couple of poor tackles, and Klopp told Sky Sports:
“We cannot change it anymore and he is a fantastic boy, an outstanding, good person with a big heart and sometimes you don’t do the right things in the right moments.”
The manager didn’t criticise the referee and agreed with the decision to send Hendo off.
“He obviously didn’t have as much oxygen anymore and it was only a little touch, but I would have given the second yellow as well.
“The only problem was, we already wanted to change him. Fabinho was ready and we couldn’t make the change because it went differently, but it is all good.”
The German added he found the result and the performance to be perfect. Liverpool found it difficult to beat Watford last season with a 3-3 draw at Vicarage Road.
The manager touched upon the players coming back from international duty and not having a lot of time to train.
The Reds have another tough tie in the coming days with a trip to Paris. A win over the French side will take us into the next round of the Champions League.
Henderson should play in this encounter, and hopefully, we have another huge win to celebrate.
