Jamie Carragher believes this Liverpool star is on track to becoming a legend

Former Liverpool star Jamie Carragher believes Virgil van Dijk is on the right track to become a legend at the club.

The Dutch defender joined the Reds from Southampton at the start of the year and has made an instant impact, improving the defence two-fold.

The Reds have only conceded five goals from 14 Premier League games this season, and Carragher wrote in his Telegraph column (h/t Daily Star) about how impressive the former Saint has been.

“He rates alongside Mohamed Salah, whose debut season was extraordinary, in that regard. But if Van Dijk continues as now – and Liverpool win trophies – I will go further.

“We will be talking about Van Dijk as we do John Barnes, Kenny Dalglish and Graeme Souness – Liverpool legends who from the moment they put on the shirt imposed themselves on the team and club to elevate everyone else.”

The Sky Sports pundit added that if Van Dijk can help us win some trophies, the Dutchman would be considered as one of the greatest centre-backs for the side. He also claimed that Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte comes close to challenging for the tag of best centre-back in the league.

“Playing centre-half for Liverpool brings inevitable comparisons with some of the best ever – Ron Yeats, Emlyn Hughes, Phil Thompson, Mark Lawrenson and Alan Hansen.

“Van Dijk can even surpass some of those names to ensure future generations talk about him in the same glowing terms. He will find himself alongside Hansen in an all-time Liverpool XI.”

The 27-year-old has done well since moving arriving at Anfield, and hopefully, he will lead us to a trophy or two this season and many more in the future.

Liverpool continue their Premier League journey with a tough trip to Molineux against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Wolves will not be easy opponents for the Premier League leaders on Friday as they held Manchester City and defeated Chelsea earlier this season.

Liverpool come off a comfortable 3-1 win over Manchester United, and Jurgen Klopp shared some injury news ahead of the clash.

The German revealed that Trent Alexander-Arnold is looking good after missing the win over United but won’t be ready for the clash against Wolves (h/t Liverpoolfc.com).

“It actually looks surprisingly good.

“I think Wolves will still be a bit too early but after that, they told me we can think about him.

“But for that, he needs to train. So far he didn’t train but the pain goes down second by second, which is good, and then in the moment when he can deal with it, he is on the pitch, and in the moment he is on the pitch we’ll make a decision.”

The Reds played with Nathaniel Clyne as the right-back on Sunday and we James Milner missed the United game too.

The Englishman was not risked by Klopp on Sunday, and Milner shared an update on his injury.

Liverpool face another tough game in the Premier League on Friday as the leaders face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

The Wolves might be newly promoted but also have a win over Chelsea and a draw against Manchester City at home.

The Reds are in fantastic form going into the game with a huge win over Manchester United at the weekend.

Sadio Mane in training

Sadio Mane scored the opening goal of the game against United, and the Senegal star was pictured in training. Mohamed Salah would also want to score a goal or two against the Wolves, and the pair seemed to be ready for the clash.

Our defence wasn’t tested much by the Red Devils on Sunday, but Alisson would want to forget about the mistake that cost us a goal.

The Brazilian should be joined in the starting XI by Virgil van Dijk, and the Dutch defender certainly looks up for another battle on Friday.

James Milner and Adam Lallana did not play in the win over United, but the pair could join Jordan Henderson in the first-team action as Jurgen Klopp could mix things up ahead of a crazy run of games.

Naby Keita was also pictured training and the Guinea midfielder is slowly coming into his own in his first season at Anfield.

Keita was great in the win over United but his midfield partner, Fabinho, was the best performer in that win.

Liverpool can extend their lead at the top to four points before Manchester City play Crystal Palace on Saturday, and that pressure could see the Cityzens crack, as they did against Chelsea recently.

James Milner to return? – Predicted Liverpool line-up to face Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolverhampton Wanderers host the Reds on Friday as we look to extend our lead at the top of the Premier League to four points.

Liverpool come off a couple of huge wins over Napoli and Manchester United but the Wolves will not be easy fodder given their exploits this season.

They have already defeated Chelsea and drawn with Manchester City, so the Reds have to be wary of their opposition.

Liverpool were incredible in the win over United, but Jurgen Klopp could make some changes in the starting XI as we look to keep the players fresh.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is a doubt for the game with Joe Gomez and Joel Matip recovering from injuries, and here is our predicted line-up for Klopp’s men.

Predicted Liverpool XI

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Jurgen Klopp

Alisson (GK)

The Brazilian made an error in the 3-1 win over United, but that shouldn’t faze him as we look for all three points on Friday.

James Milner (RB)

Nathaniel Clyne did a decent job in defence, but it is unlikely he will start two games in five days for us, and we could see Milner coming into the right-back slot.

Virgil van Dijk (CB)

Possibly the best defender in the world, Van Dijk has barely put a foot wrong at Liverpool and the centre-back needs to be vigil against a crafty Wolves team.

Dejan Lovren

Dejan Lovren (CB)

Lovren was barely threatened at the back by United, but the Croatian will face a tougher test at Molineux.

Andy Robertson (LB)

The best left-back in the league should start on Friday as the games keep on coming.

Jordan Henderson (CM)

It was a surprise seeing Henderson not starting against United, but the captain should make a return on Friday.

Fabinho of Liverpool

Fabinho bossed Manchester United

Fabinho (CM)

The performance against United was possibly Fabinho’s best since joining the Reds, and the Brazilian should continue in the team.

Naby Keita (CAM)

The Guinea midfielder had a great game for us on Sunday and hopefully, plays more down the middle against Wolves.

Xherdan Shaqiri (RAM)

Roberto Firmino ran his socks off against United, and the Brazilian could get a rest with super-sub Shaqiri being the third man in our attack.

Sadio Mane and Georginio Wijnaldum Liverpool

Mane found his scoring boots against United, and the Liverpool forward seems set to score more on Friday.
