Jurgen Klopp accepts fine for Merseyside derby celebration but has no regrets

Jurgen Klopp has stated that he will not repeat the celebration after Divock Origi’s goal against Everton and was not upset with the fine handed down to him.

The Daily Mail reports that the German accepted the £8,000 fine, but did not regret the celebration. Klopp ran onto the pitch and hugged goalkeeper Alisson

after Divock Origi scored a 96th-minute winner over the Toffees on Sunday.

Klopp was quoted (h/t Daily Mail) saying:

“No, I don’t regret it in a way that it should not have happened.

“I’m not sure football is all about a manager running on the pitch. I know that I am rather on the jump and on the run when something happens.

“It’s not for you to change (the laws) and me to explain how the rules are. I did it. I broke a rule, I pay for it.”

The German claimed that he has had a few problems in the dugouts, but a touchline ban would have been excessive for his celebration.

Liverpool players celebrate Merseyside derby winner

Klopp added that the fine made him aware of the situation, and he would not “do it again”. The German even touched upon his crazy celebration with Mainz in 2004, where he was fined.

The Liverpool manager did get suggest that not many thought his celebration was wrong, and even Marco Silva, the Everton boss, didn’t think Klopp should have been fined.

Klopp has a right to celebrate and we need to take the conditions of the game before passing on any judgement.

This was a hard-fought derby with a winner coming in the most bizarre fashion in the 96th-minute. If you aren’t allowed to celebrate wildly, what are you to do?
