Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was named as the BBC African Footballer of the Year for the second time in a row.
The 26-year-old had a fantastic season with Liverpool last time winning the Premier League’s Golden Boot, helping the Reds to a top-four finish and narrowly missing out in the Champions League final.
The former AS Roma man broke numerous records and won the award ahead of Thomas Partey, Medhi Benatia, Kalidou Koulibaly and Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane.
Salah was happy to have won the award and wanted to make it a hat-trick next year (h/t BBC):
“It’s a great feeling to win again. I’m happy and I would like to win it also next year!”
The 26-year-old further spoke about his highs from last season and claimed that his aim for this season is to “win something” with the team.
“The game against Roma at Anfield [Champions League semi-final first leg] was unbelievable. I’m scoring goals and helping the team to get the points to be top of the league. That’s always a great feeling.”
Salah also became the first player to win the award back-to-back since Nigerian great Jay-Jay Okocha.
The Egyptian seems to have found his shooting boots, and form again, after his exploits against Bournemouth and Napoli, and many Liverpool fans were jubilant seeing their star pick up the trophy.
