Xherdan Shaqiri has claimed that some people are blaming him for the sacking of Jose Mourinho. The Liverpool star came off the bench to score a brace in our 3-1 win over Manchester United and the Portuguese was sacked a couple of days later.
The Swiss has had a great impact since arriving from Stoke City and was speaking to the Guardian:
“There were a lot of good messages about the United game at first and then, when the news came out about Mourinho, I had messages saying: ‘That’s your fault!’ But this is football sometimes.
“I don’t think it was just because we won that game that United wanted to change their manager. There were other reasons but it means the game goes down in history. It will always be in my history too.”
There was a lot of celebration at Anfield as we remained on top of the Premier League after the win. Shaqiri certainly was brilliant in the game and Virgil van Dijk even shouted “Big Shaq in the building” as the Liverpool players walked back into the dressing room.
The former Stoke City player certainly has had his moments in his short spell at Anfield and hopefully, he will keep putting in quality performances.
Mourinho might not have been sacked simply because of Shaqiri’s goals but the Swiss star’s brace at Anfield will remain etched in most Liverpool supporters’ memories.
