Virgil van Dijk has been a beast for Liverpool since signing from Southampton and Jamie Carragher has compared the Dutchman to Arsenal great Tony Adams.
Van Dijk helped Liverpool to a clean sheet against Wolverhampton Wanderers and even scored to help record a 2-0 win. Manchester City also lost at the weekend, which provides the Reds with a four-point gap at the top after 18 games.
Carragher believed that the Dutch defender makes others look better around him, something that Adams was known for (h/t Metro):
“That’s always a great sign for a centre-back. Tony Adams was the same at Arsenal, when he made his back four look better than they were.
“It’s not just his physical attributes it’s his decision making as well.”
The former Liverpool defender was spot on regarding Van Dijk making the others look better. Dejan Lovren has looked like a quality defender alongside the Dutchman while Joe Gomez has become one of the best in the league too.
Joel Matip was excellent in a couple of games before he fractured his collarbone and hopefully, Gomez and Matip return from injury soon.
Jurgen Klopp spent a huge amount on the defender but it looks like peanuts compared to his performances for the Reds.
Liverpool have a long way to go this season but we can be assured of Van Dijk doing his best for the side.
