German outlet Abendzeitung (h/t Metro) claims that Liverpool are serious contenders to sign striker Timo Werner. The 22-year-old has recently dropped a hint that he could be contemplating leaving RB Leipzig. He also spoke about Bayern Munich (h/t Metro):
“I’ve had a nice two and a half years at Leipzig, so they are in the picture [for next season].
“There are other clubs in the picture. If you play in Germany and want to stay in Germany, there is only one club in question.”
The report adds that Jurgen Klopp has scouted the German several times, and discussions have taken place in Merseyside about signing the Leipzig star.
The striker has just one year remaining on his contract at the end of this season, and the report claims that the Bundesliga club could decide to cash in on their star.
Werner also said that playing in the Premier League is a dream for him during an interview with FourFourTwo (h/t Metro) but admitted that his English needs to improve for that to happen.
The German has 10 goals from 16 Bundesliga appearances and seems to be doing well in front of goal after a poor World Cup.
Roberto Firmino has done an excellent job for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, but we could do with another quality striker in the side.
Werner is one of the brightest talents in German football, and it will be interesting to see if we make a move for him soon.
