Liverpool seem to have spent well on Virgil van Dijk as the Dutch defender has been incredible since joining from Southampton.
The Reds paid a world record £75million (h/t Express) to sign the defender at the start of the year and the 27-year-old recently scored his first league goal for the club.
Liverpool have only conceded seven goals from 18 games this season and Van Dijk’s teammate Sadio Mane praised the impact the 27-year-old has had (h/t Express):
“It’s been a big, big impact. We’ve all seen it. Of course at the time he signed people were thinking that the club had over-paid for Virgil.
“But since then everyone has forgotten about the fee because his form has been so good.”
Mane further praised the Dutch defender for being a leader in the side and went on to suggest that Van Dijk is one of the best in the world.
“He’s done such a great job for us back there. I am so happy to have him as a team-mate. He’s one of the leaders. You can see it in every single game.
“He has proved he’s one of the best defenders in the world.”
The former Southampton defender has made us one of the toughest defences to break down. Further, he seems comfortable playing with the other centre-backs we have in the team.

The Dutchman has turned around our fortunes in recent months. Gone are the days when we would worry about conceding sloppy goals and the team looks confident in keeping clean sheets than ever before.
