Jamie Redknapp seems to love Virgil van Dijk. The former Liverpool midfielder called the Dutchman as the best defender in the world (h/t Mirror).
Redknapp now believes that the star has the qualities of three of the best to have played in the Premier League. The Englishman was writing in his column for the Daily Mail (h/t Mirror) and compared the Liverpool centre-back to a couple of English legends:
“We are only halfway through the season but already nobody comes close to Virgil van Dijk in the race for Player of the Year. He is the one player every team would love to have in their side.
“Think of the best defenders in Premier League history — John Terry, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic. Van Dijk is all three players rolled into one.”
Redknapp highlighted some of Van Dijk’s traits that made him a three-in-one player.
“He reads the game like Terry and is a lovely passer, getting the ball out of his feet and spraying 30-yard balls.
“Van Dijk is blessed with the pace of Rio, too. Rarely do you see him caught out in a one-on-one situation.”
Claiming that our Dutch talent is an amalgamation of three defenders is a bit too much but the centre-back certainly is the best defender in the Premier League now.
The Reds have one of the meanest defences in Europe and the Dutch defender is getting better with each game under his belt.

Van Dijk has a long way to go before being considered as a legend at Anfield, but one small step he can take towards that goal is by winning a trophy or two with the Reds.
