Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to six points after their 4-0 win over Newcastle. The first half was a bit slow with Dejan Lovren scoring a thunderbolt from a corner.

The second half started with Mohamed Salah winning a penalty and converting it to calm things down. Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho got the other goals on an evening where Manchester City lost to Leicester City.

The Reds were in cruise control for most of the game and must now prepare for the visit of Arsenal on Saturday. Almost every Liverpool player was great on the night and here are the player ratings from the game.

Liverpool Player Ratings

Alisson – 7/10

Alisson was barely threatened by the Newcastle attack. The Brazilian did come up big in the final seconds to keep a clean sheet for us.

Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7.5/10

The English youngster did a great job running up and down the right but his crossing was a tad disappointing in the evening, although he assisted Shaqiri for the third goal.

Dejan Lovren Liverpool

Dejan Lovren – 8/10

Lovren dealt with almost everything that was thrown at him and scored the opening goal of the game with a thunderous shot.

Virgil van Dijk – 8/10

Another comfortable night for the best defender in the league as he barely put a foot wrong.

Andy Robertson – 7.5/10

Robertson, like Trent, didn’t have a great night with his crosses but he was an ever-present runner down the left flank and got a well-deserved rest late in the game.

Georginio Wijnaldum against Paris Saint-Germain

Georginio Wijnaldum – 7/10

The Dutch midfielder was booed a few times for his Newcastle links but did a decent job in the middle of the park for the Reds.

Jordan Henderson – 7.5/10

The captain put up a great performance on the night and controlled the game well.

Xherdan Shaqiri – 7.5/10

The Swiss star was a bundle of energy in the first half and had a free-kick tipped over. The attacker got a well-deserved goal to make the points safe for us.

Sadio Mane – 7/10

Mane had a couple of quality chances to score and should have assisted one goal but things just aren’t going right for the Senegal international.

Mohamed Salah of Liverpool

Mohamed Salah – 8.5/10

The Egyptian might have scored from a penalty but he did plenty of hard work in the final third and was a pest for the Newcastle defence. Salah even played a cross for Fabinho to score the team’s fourth.

Roberto Firmino – 6.5/10

Firmino tirelessly ran around the park but some of his passes were awful and he gave the ball away several times.

Substitutes

Fabinho – 7/10

The Brazilian was brought on to shore things up and got a goal by barely moving from a corner.

Daniel Sturridge – NA

The Englishman didn’t really do much of notice after coming on.
