Virgil van Dijk claimed there is no need to panic after Liverpool’s first Premier League loss of the season.
Manchester City defeated the Reds 2-1 at the Etihad and cut our lead to four points, and Van Dijk stated that there would be ups and downs ahead of a tough season, and believed the team would bounce back (h/t Sky Sports):
“It was an intense game for both teams. They won and we are very disappointed but we will focus on recovering and making sure we are ready for the next game.
“We are disappointed we lost but there is no reason for panic. For us it was just another important Premier League game. Unfortunately we lost and couldn’t get a result. Fair play to City and congratulations to them but we just have to keep going.”
There wasn’t much between the two sides at the Etihad on Thursday, and if we had a bit of luck, we could have won the game.
Van Dijk had a decent game but we lost due to a couple of mistakes in defence. Although the loss was difficult to take, we still have a decent advantage over City and our fixtures are a little forgiving in the coming month.
Liverpool weren’t dismantled or destroyed by the Cityzens, and we should look for the three points in our next Premier League clash against Brighton.
However, our next game is Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup on Monday, and it will be interesting to see our reaction after the defeat.
