Former Liverpool player John Aldridge wants the club to replace Dejan Lovren with Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Croatian had done a pretty good job replacing Joe Gomez and Joel Matip in the heart of our defence. However, he made a few errors in our 2-1 loss against Manchester City which cut our lead at the top of the Premier League.

Speaking to the Irish Independent (h/t Metro), Aldridge claimed the Reds don’t have to hit the “panic button” but they need to sign the final piece for a title-winning side.

The former Red added that Lovren is a “weak link” in the side and has to be replaced sooner rather than later. Aldridge further claimed that teams target the Croatian and we need someone who can make a huge impact at the club.

“We have seen the impact made by Virgil van Dijk since his £75m arrival last January and I wonder whether a move for a powerhouse defender like Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly could give Klopp’s side the bit they need at the back.

“Top-quality opposition continue to get joy out of targeting Lovren, as he as a tendency to lose concentration and this is why I believe Van Dijk needs an A-list defensive partner.”

Although Lovren has an error or two in him, he had done a decent job till that City game. The Croatian wasn’t in the first-team regularly at the start of the season as Joe Gomez had partnered Van Dijk in the heart of the defence.

The Reds are in a huge crisis at the moment but we need Joel Matip and Gomez to return from their injuries as early as possible.

Koulibaly has been linked with a £90million to Manchester United (h/t Metro), and it would be an incredible piece of business if we sign the Senegal defender next season.
