Jurgen Klopp believes the rest period between games could be beneficial into getting some players fit.

Liverpool stars Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana and Joe Gomez are recovering from various problems while Joel Matip only just returned to the first-team in our win over Brighton.

The Reds play Crystal Palace on Saturday before an 11-day break when Leicester City visit Anfield on 30 January.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo (h/t Liverpoolfc.com), the German was hopeful of some players making a return to the side:

“The break that we are getting at the end of January is going to be 100 per cent helpful for the boys with injuries.

“I hope that Dejan and Joe make big steps to come forward.”

The German added that Lallana might require more time to regain fitness but was expecting more good news regarding Matip.

“We have Joel now back as he was on the bench against Brighton but he as well will use the time for bone healing and it all helps so it’s good for us in that way.”

Our schedule has been helped thanks to our elimination from the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, and we need to use these breaks to ensure our players stay in the best condition.

Manchester City have a packed schedule due to their cup commitments, and we need to keep winning to keep the Cityzens behind us in the Premier League.

Palace won’t be easy opposition, but we should have more options in defence with Matip starting alongside Virgil van Dijk rather than Fabinho.

We need to avoid any further injuries, and hopefully, things go according to plan at Anfield at the weekend.
