Football journalist Graeme Bailey (h/t Daily Star) claims Liverpool have not ended their interest in Nabil Fekir despite a deal not taking place in the summer.

The Frenchman was close to signing for the Reds before the World Cup but Liverpool pulled out after issues cropped up regarding the player’s fitness (h/t Daily Star).

The report adds that Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City are all interested in the World Cup winner but Bailey (h/t Daily Star) claims Anfield is the preferred destination for the Frenchman should he leave in the summer.

Fekir is contracted with Lyon till 2020 and they have done well to keep hold of their star. Lyon want to extend the Frenchman’s contract and the player confirmed there have been talks while speaking to Le Progres (h/t Daily Star).

“Discussions are ongoing. I have sat down with the president, things are advancing slowly.

“When will I take a decision? I am not fixing myself a date, I am not in a rush.

“Nobody is putting any pressure on it and I like to take my time.”

The Frenchman was in excellent form for the Ligue 1 side last season and has bagged 11 goals and five assists in all competitions this time around.

Liverpool are known to wait for the players they really want to sign. Jurgen Klopp waited for Virgil van Dijk and the Dutch defender has become one of the best in the world since his move.

The Reds could do with more creativity in the side. To that end, signing Fekir would ease the pressure on our front three.
