Liverpool are interested in Dutch youngster Steven Bergwijn but face real competition from AC Milan, according to Calciomercato (h/t Daily Star).

The report claims that Manchester United were also interested in the 21-year-old and were to bid £25m for the PSV Eindhoven winger.

However, the report claims that Milan have stolen a march on the pair and are in negotiations with the player over a loan deal in January. The report adds that the move would be made permanent in the summer.

Bergwijn has been in sensational form in the Eredivisie with nine goals and eight assists from just 17 league games this season.

The report adds that PSV have rejected bids from Torino and Bordeaux for the 21-year-old, with Liverpool watching him in October.

The 21-year-old can play across the front-line, which would be an asset for Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp has worked well with youngsters during his time at Liverpool, and Bergwijn could be a star in the making.

The Reds have Dutch talents such as Georginio Wijnaldum and Virgil van Dijk starting almost every game, while Ki-Jana Hoever is set for some great things after making his debut in the FA Cup defeat to Wolves.
