Liverpool target Timo Werner has been offered a bumper contract to remain with RB Leipzig, but the deal contains a strange release clause, according to Bild
(h/t Express). The report claims that the new deal contains a clause that permits the forward to leave the Bundesliga side if a “suitable” offer comes in from a select list of clubs.
This should come as good news to the Reds as we need to find a quality striker to add to our forward line. Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah need quality cover, and we sold Dominic Solanke to Bournemouth in the winter window.
Divock Origi and Daniel Sturridge don’t have the same qualities as Werner does, and the German is only 22 at the moment.
The forward is a German international and represented the country in the 2018 World Cup too. Werner had a difficult tournament in Russia but has found his scoring boots for Leipzig.
The 22-year-old has scored 11 goals from 18 Bundesliga games and can play on the left wing too. The German would make an excellent signing for the Reds, and Jurgen Klopp is said to be interested in the forward, according to the report.
Liverpool haven’t splashed the cash in the winter window so far, and it seems unlikely we would sign a first-team player soon.
