Liverpool legend and former striker Robbie Fowler has come out to defend Mohamed Salah over some diving claims regarding the Egyptian forward.

The Englishman wrote in the Mirror claiming he was in “disbelief” over the criticism aimed at the Liverpool forward recently. Salah has won a fair number of penalties for us this season, and Fowler did not want the player to be targetted simply because he was an overseas player.

Fowler added that he never dived in his career and claimed that Salah did go down a little theatrically but defended the Egyptian (h/t Mirror):

“Yes, there have been times when Salah has gone over a bit theatrically, sometimes he may have gone down a bit easily.

“Two things.

“One, who doesn’t now?

“Two, he’s almost always been kicked.”

The former Liverpool striker added that the Egyptian has been kicked a lot in the past 18 months. Fowler believed the referees would not give their decision in favour of the Egyptian unless he went down in a manner suggesting he had been kicked.

The Englishman even pointed out that the penalty won against Newcastle at Anfield was the first awarded to Liverpool in 18 months. The former Red added that most of the penalties won by Salah were genuine, even though he went down a little easy.

The Egyptian has been in great form for the Reds since his move from AS Roma and could win the Golden Boot again.

The Egyptian will have the opportunity to score a few more as we face Leicester at Anfield on Wednesday, and hopefully, we come out with three points against the Foxes.
